Privacy Policy
Last updated July 26, 2026
This policy explains how Union Bar and Grill ("the Union", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information submitted through this website, our VIP list, and our forms. It is maintained by the Union and applies only to this site — not to third-party sites we link to. By using this site or submitting a form, you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only what you choose to give us:
- Table reservations & bar rentals: name, email, phone, requested date, party size, event type, and any notes you add.
- Job applications: name, email, phone, position, availability, work experience, and any resume file you upload.
- Contact messages: name, email, subject, and message.
- VIP list sign-ups: email address and/or mobile number, the date and source of your sign-up, and your browser's user-agent string (kept as proof of consent).
- Basic technical data: standard server and hosting logs (such as IP address and timestamps) generated automatically when any website is visited.
We do not request payment card numbers, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, health information, or other sensitive categories of personal information through this website. Please do not send them to us through these forms.
2. How We Use Information
- To respond to your reservation, rental request, application, or message.
- To evaluate job applicants and maintain ordinary hiring records.
- To send event announcements, drink specials, and promotions if you joined the VIP list.
- To build audiences for our own advertising on platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.
- To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the website and prevent abuse of our forms.
- To comply with legal obligations, including alcohol-service and employment recordkeeping.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Uploading a list of contacts to an advertising platform to reach you or similar audiences may be treated as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under some state laws. You can opt out of that at any time — see Section 6.
3. Email and Text Marketing Consent
Joining the VIP list is entirely optional and is never required to make a reservation, apply for a job, or contact us.
- Email: Providing your email address and submitting the VIP form is your express consent to receive promotional email from the Union, typically a few messages per month. Every marketing email identifies the Union as the sender, uses an accurate, non-deceptive subject line, includes our physical mailing address, and contains a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribe requests are honored promptly and in no case later than 10 business days, as required by the CAN-SPAM Act.
- Text messages: Providing your mobile number and checking the consent box is your express written consent to receive recurring automated marketing texts from the Union at that number. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Message frequency varies; message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel or HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- Transactional replies: If you submit a booking, rental, application, or contact form, we may reply to you about that request even if you are not on the VIP list. Those replies are not marketing.
4. How to Opt Out
- Click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing email.
- Reply STOP to any marketing text message.
- Email Bar@iowacitybar.com with the subject "Opt Out" and the email address or phone number to remove.
- To opt out of interest-based ads on Instagram and Facebook, also use the ad-preference controls inside those apps, and email us to be excluded from our advertising audiences.
We keep a minimal suppression record (your address or number) after you opt out so that we do not contact you again by mistake.
5. Sharing and Service Providers
We share personal information only with vendors who process it on our behalf and with the limited recipients described here:
- Email delivery provider (to route form submissions to our staff inbox and send VIP emails).
- Website hosting and database provider (to run the site and store submissions and uploads).
- Advertising platforms, including Meta (Instagram and Facebook), for our own marketing audiences.
- Our owners, managers, and staff who need the information to do their jobs.
- Professional advisors, or law enforcement and regulators, when we are legally required to respond or need to protect the safety of guests and staff.
We do not share your information with unrelated third parties for their own marketing.
6. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, request a copy, correct it, request deletion, opt out of targeted advertising or "sale"/ "sharing", and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Iowa's Consumer Data Protection Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and similar state laws provide versions of these rights.
To make a request, email Bar@iowacitybar.com from the address you gave us, or include enough detail for us to find your record. We will verify the request, respond within the time your state law requires (generally 45 days), and tell you if we need an extension. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our response with the word "Appeal".
An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with written permission that we can verify.
7. Cookies, Analytics, and Do Not Track
This site uses only the local browser storage needed to run the page — for example, remembering that you already dismissed the VIP list popup. We do not run third-party advertising or tracking pixels on this site. If we add analytics or ad pixels in the future, we will update this policy and this section before doing so. Because there is no industry-standard response to browser "Do Not Track" signals, we do not currently respond to them; we do honor documented opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control where state law requires it.
8. Retention and Deletion
We keep reservation and contact records only as long as needed for business and legal purposes, typically up to two years. Job applications and resumes are kept for up to one year unless you are hired, in which case they become part of your employment record. VIP list entries are kept until you opt out. You may request deletion at any time using Section 6.
9. Security
Form submissions travel over encrypted HTTPS connections and are stored with reputable hosting providers. Resume uploads are stored in a private, non-public storage bucket. Access to submissions is limited to Union staff who need it, and database access rules restrict who can read stored records. No website or business can guarantee absolute security. If a breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify affected individuals and any regulators as required by Iowa Code chapter 715C and other applicable breach-notification laws.
10. Age Requirement and Minors
The Union is a 21+ venue and valid government-issued ID is required for entry. This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has submitted information, email Bar@iowacitybar.com and we will delete it.
11. Photos, Video, and Guest Likeness
Photos and video used on this site were taken at the Union or supplied to us for promotional use. Entering the venue during a photographed or recorded event may result in your image appearing in our promotional material. If you appear in an image on this site and want it removed, email Bar@iowacitybar.com with a description of the photo and we will review and remove it promptly. See our Terms of Use for copyright and content-ownership details.
12. Accessibility
We work to keep this site usable with assistive technology. See our Accessibility Statement for details, or email Bar@iowacitybar.com if you need help submitting a form or accessing information in another format.
13. Third-Party Links
This site links to third-party services such as Instagram, Google Maps, and email. Their privacy practices are their own and are not covered by this policy.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as our practices change. The date at the top shows the most recent revision, and material changes will be reflected on this page before they take effect.
