Accessibility
Last updated July 26, 2026
Union Bar and Grill wants every guest to be able to use this website and enjoy our venue. We are working to keep this site conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the standard commonly used to meet Americans with Disabilities Act expectations for public accommodations.
What We Do
- Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images and labels on icon-only buttons.
- Labeled form fields with clear error and success messages that screen readers announce.
- Keyboard access to navigation, forms, and the VIP list dialog, including a visible focus outline.
- Semantic headings and landmarks so assistive technology can navigate the page structure.
- High-contrast gold-on-black text and large tap targets sized for mobile use.
- Muted, decorative background video that does not autoplay sound.
Known Limitations
Some areas may not yet fully conform. Background video and animated marquee text may be distracting for some visitors; the site respects your device's "reduce motion" setting where possible. Embedded third-party content, such as the Google Maps frame and Instagram links, is controlled by those providers and may not meet the same standard. We review and improve these areas over time.
Need Help or Found a Barrier?
If any part of this site is difficult to use, or if you need information — hours, specials, menus, or a reservation — provided in another format, contact us and a person will help you directly:
- Email Bar@iowacitybar.com with the subject "Accessibility" and a description of the problem and the page.
- Write to Union Bar and Grill, 118 S. Clinton St., Iowa City, IA 52240.
We aim to acknowledge accessibility requests within 3 business days and to resolve or provide an alternative promptly. You can complete any booking, rental, application, or question by email instead of using the online forms.
Venue Accessibility and Accommodations
For questions about physical access to the venue, seating, or a specific accommodation for your visit or event, email Bar@iowacitybar.com ahead of time and our staff will work with you. Service animals are welcome in accordance with the ADA.
Ongoing Effort
Accessibility is an ongoing effort rather than a one-time certification. This statement reflects our current practices and is not a claim of third-party certification or audit. We update it as the site changes and welcome feedback that helps us improve.
